MOSCOW, Jun 10 (PRIME) -- Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Russia’s Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, has connected all the segments of the first string of the facility, and will begin filling the pipeline with gas on Friday, the company said in a statement on Thursday.
“The offshore part of the first string of the Nord Stream-2 is technically completed. On June 4, we finished laying the pipes, and today… the marine segments of the gas pipeline have been connected. Commissioning and filling the line with gas will begin tomorrow,” the company said.
The company added that construction of the second string continues.
The Nord Stream-2 project envisages construction of two lines of a natural gas pipeline with an annual capacity of up to 55 billion cubic meters, running from the Russian shore to Germany under the Baltic Sea. Russian gas giant Gazprom is implementing the project together with Germany’s E.ON and BASF, Royal Dutch Shell, Austria’s OMV, and France’s Engie. The project is strongly opposed by the U.S. and several European states.
